I understand that I have to create a body (its a container ok) but why all the imported shapes are outside this container ? what about sketch, etc. I am lost with the very beginning of being able to work with an imported file !! What I would like is step by step and with explanations what I have to do. I can import this drawing in Freecad but then I can't do anything. With the other 10° it is freed and returns to its initial position with its own weight (I think tere is an english word for that !). With a turn of 350° the rod goes from right to left (or reverse). I join the dxf drawing : it is a cylinder with a hole in it (a pocket ?) this hole is supposed to drive a rod. As far as I can see, there are few or no texts for complete beginners. They all seem to assume that people watching them have a prior understanding of 3-D design manipulation. When I look at the web tutorials I don't find them to be very useful. I'm very impressed with your help so far - I have actually been able to create simple parts quite rapidly.

I want to understand how to use the program, so I don't just want to send you a file with a request to 'make it work' - but I want to get it to work myself. The problem is that I still do not understand enough about the concepts behind FreeCAD, and so I am likely to be making assumptions which are completely untrue. I have read a post on this forum that said : I am very new to freecad and not an expert with 3D. I have done a lot of drawings using LibreCad V 2.1.3. I 'work' mainly with 5 1/4 inches and 7 inches gauges with live steam. I am a railway fan and I think that 3D printing will be useful. I am french and english is not my natural language ! I am 67 with 40 years of computing experiences.
